How to Screen Record on iPhone (With Your Face in It)
Apple's built-in recorder is fine for a silent clip. The moment you want to explain something, you need your voice and your face on screen. Here's both, step by step.
The built-in way: Apple's screen recorder
Every iPhone can record its own screen, no app needed.
- Open Settings → Control Center and add Screen Recording if it isn't there.
- Swipe down from the top-right corner to open Control Center and tap the record button (a dot inside a circle).
- After a three-second countdown, the clock turns red. Everything on screen is being captured.
- To record your voice, long-press the record button before you start and turn Microphone on.
- Tap the red indicator at the top and choose Stop. The video lands in Photos.
That covers a silent walkthrough. It cannot put your camera on screen, and it records every notification that pops up while you work.
The catch: no face
A screen recording without a person in it is a mystery video. Viewers don't know who's talking or where to look, and retention drops in the first few seconds. Creators learned this years ago, which is why every reaction video and tutorial has a face in the corner.
On iPhone, that face usually means recording your screen, then recording yourself separately, then stitching the two in an editor. FlowRec skips all of it.
The better way: your face in a floating bubble
FlowRec's Screen Cam keeps your front camera live in a bubble that floats over every app you open, and records the whole thing in one take.
- Open FlowRec and switch the mode toggle to SCREEN CAM.
- Tap the record button. Confirm screen sharing when iOS asks.
- Swipe to any app. Your face rides along in the bubble. Drag it, pinch to resize, blur the background, or flip to the back camera from Bubble Settings.
- Stop from the Dynamic Island: tap the recording indicator, choose Stop. Or use the Stop button on the Lock Screen, or come back to FlowRec.
- The clip opens in Trim already cut to the part you recorded outside the app. Save to Photos and share.
Screen Cam needs iOS 18 or later. Recording a website instead? Switch to WEB CAM and you get a live green-screen camera, sonar rings on every tap, and a teleprompter only you can see.
Tips for a recording people actually watch
- Turn on Do Not Disturb first. Notifications get recorded.
- Say what you're about to do before you tap it. The bubble makes it feel like a conversation, so talk like one.
- Keep it under two minutes. Trim the dead air at the start and end; FlowRec's filmstrip makes that a two-second job.
- Record in portrait if it's going to TikTok, Reels, Shorts or iMessage. FlowRec saves full resolution, ready to post.
Questions
Can the built-in iPhone screen recorder record my face?
No. Apple's recorder captures the screen and, optionally, the microphone. It has no camera option. FlowRec adds your face in a floating bubble and records both at once.
Does FlowRec record other apps, or just websites?
Both. Screen Cam records anything on your phone with your face in a bubble (iOS 18 or later). Web Cam records websites inside FlowRec with a green-screen camera.
Is it free?
Yes. Web recordings are free with a small watermark and a three-minute cap, and you get two free Screen Cam recordings. FlowRec Pro removes the watermark and limits.
Where does the video go?
To your Photos library, as a normal video file. Share it anywhere; nothing is uploaded to us.
